Rare Wine, Rare Books: Friday, July 28, 2017

Tickets are now available for the 2017 Rare Wine, Rare Books wine-tasting dinner. Plan to join us on Friday, July 28, 2017, in Missouri State University’s Duane G. Meyer Library as we enjoy good food, good wine, and learn a bit about some of the university’s most interesting collections.

This event supports the Fraley Family Rare Books Endowment and features six flights of wine, aptly and entertainingly described by David Dain Smith. Guests will also enjoy a dinner designed to enhance the wines, prepared by Chef Quintin Eason. Our guest speaker is Mitzi Kirkland-Ives (Associate Professor, Art and Design).

This year's theme is "The Art of Wine, the Art of the Book." During the evening’s first flight, guests will be able to browse Special Collections’ newest exhibit before moving to a seated dinner. During the third course, Dr. Kirkland-Ives will talk about the art of medieval manuscript pages, and library staff will show examples from the rare books collection. Throughout the evening, guests will have a chance to learn more about Missouri State University’s diverse and unique special collections.

Tickets are $100 per person. The dinner begins at 7:00 p.m., with doors opening at 6:45 p.m. Details will be sent to guests before that date.

Sold Out Tickets can be purchased online or by mail by sending a check to

Checks should be made payable to “Missouri State University Foundation,” with “Rare Books Endowment” in the memo field. Please include a contact telephone number or email address.

If you cannot join us that evening, we hope you will still consider making a donation to the endowment. It is through your support we are able to purchase books that support the MSU Libraries' goal to document the history of the book, as well as care for the volumes already in Special Collections.

The University Libraries would like to thank our 2017 sponsors for their dedicated support of the rare books collection at Missouri State University.
