National Counselor's Exam
Test Dates and Locations
Candidates who are Missouri State students will be submitted for approval to NCE. Once NCE has approved the list, candidates will receive an email notification with instructions as to the next steps. Approximately one month prior to the current exam window, candidates will receive another email with information regarding how to set up an account and choose their exam date, time, and location.
Candidates should check their spam/junk/clutter folders if they have not received their email notification from Pearson VUE by approximately 30 days prior to the exam window opening, and if the notification is not there, contact NCE at certification@nbcc.org.
The Fall 2024 window is to be determined - please contact the Counseling Department for more information.
Registration
Registration for the National Counselor's Exam is conducted entirely through the instructions provided in the email candidates receive from NCE. Candidates are referred to Pearson VUE for registration and payment; candidates with a previous account through Pearson VUE for another exam (such as the CPCE) will need to create a NEW account. It is important that the candidate's first and last name in the Pro-Counselor account is identical to the name on the two forms of identification they will be using when they report for the exam. If changes need to be made, please contact the Certification Department BEFORE the registration deadline. Once the candidate's information has been sent to Pearson VUE, no changes can be made to the candidate's mailing address, email address, or phone number in their Pro-Counselor account.
Candidates can check for testing locations in their vicinity by going to the Pearson VUE website and typing NBCC into the Select Your Program box. After selecting the National Board for Certified Counselors, click on Find a Test Center to see which centers are administering the NCE. Please consult the Exam Registration Instructions for step-by-step instructions on how to register correctly.

Accommodations
Contact the testing company to request accommodations. If the candidate has requested special examination accommodations, correspondence regarding the specifics of those arrangements will come from the NCE affiliate, the Center for Credentialing and Education (CCE). Questions about exam accommodations should be directed to accomodations@cce-global.org.
